Kiwi is a fruit originating from Southeast Asia. In Turkey, it grows in Marmara, Aegean, Black Sea and Mediterranean regions. Humid and rainy climatic conditions are required to grow kiwi. In addition, since it is a kiwi-vine plant, it develops better in strained, deep and light soils. The soil pH level between 5.5 and 7 also increases the quality of kiwi. Kiwi is planted in autumn and its maintenance is done by irrigation, pruning, fertilization and protection from cold. Kiwi trees begin to bear fruit after 4-5 years. Kiwi is a fruit rich in vitamin C and antioxidants. Besides fresh consumption, it can also be used in fruit salads and desserts. In 2018, approximately 62 thousand tons of kiwi was produced in Turkey.
