Although pomegranate cultivation in Turkey has a very old history, it has developed further in recent years due to increasing demand and health benefits. Pomegranate is a subtropical and tropical climate fruit, requiring hot and dry summers and warm and rainy winters. Pomegranate production in Turkey is generally carried out in the Mediterranean, Aegean and Southeastern Anatolia regions. The provinces where the most pomegranates are grown are Antalya, Muğla, Denizli, Mersin, Gaziantep, Aydın, Hatay and Adana. Among the pomegranate varieties grown in Turkey, Hicaz Pomegranate, Batem Esinnarı, Katırbaşı, Aşınar, Batem Hicrannar, Batem Yılmaznar and Batem Onurnar can be counted. Pomegranate planting can be done in autumn or spring. Planting spacing should be 2.5x4 or 3x4 meters. Pomegranate trees should be given the desired form before they go to yield with shape pruning. The pomegranate harvest should be done by hand or with scissors and the fruits should be left in the crates softly. Suitable temperature and humidity conditions should be provided for pomegranate storage.
